Source Protection Region
The Saugeen, Grey Sauble, Northern Bruce Peninsula Source Protection Region (SPR) was formally established by regulations under the Clean Water Act on July 3, 2007. The SPR is a consolidation of three Source Protection Areas. It covers an area of 8 500 sq. km and extends from Tobermory to Mount Forest and Kincardine to Craigleith. A population of over 160,000 people reside in the region.
The Saugeen Valley Source Protection Area is governed by the Saugeen Valley Source Protection Authority. The Saugeen Valley SPA is the lead authority for this region and has the same board of directors as the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority.
The Grey Sauble Source Protection Area is governed by the Grey Sauble Source Protection Authority, which has the same board of directors as the Grey Sauble Conservation Authority.
The Northern Bruce Peninsula Source Protection Area is governed by the Northern Bruce Peninsula Source Protection Authority. In this case, the council of the Municiplaity of Northen Bruce Peninsula forms the SPA, which is presently the only SPA in the province with this type of governance structure.
